Brad Robertson's Biography

Contemporary Abstract

Brad Robertson has painted all his life. Born and raised in the coastal town of Mobile, Alabama, his earliest inspiration was the landscape- the indigenous pines and oak tress, and the waters of Mobile Bay. The coastal landscape is still a major source of inspiration for Robertson. During his time at Auburn University he created the foundation for what would eventually become his career as a professional painter, encouraging his unique ability to work with the color and texture to create depth, complexity and expressiveness. Robertson starts a canvas with a general idea of what he wants to do. He maps out negative space and areas of strength. "Then I find the focal point, work out from where all of that begins and try to make it all work together." Areas with the strongest texture usually denote his starting point. "Some of this texture is from seven or eight layer of redo, redo, rework, rework. The more it builds, the more it gives it character."
